About KAR

KAR is Kate & Adam Rice.

Hello! Thanks for taking the time to get to know us! We are a fun loving couple who lives for photography and the outdoors! We have spent over a decade exploring and photographing in Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, and Alaska. Originally from Northern Minnesota, we fell in love with the American West on our honeymoon road trip to Yellowstone. Shortly after our honeymoon, left our friends and family behind to pursue our dream of wildlife photography, and what a wild ride it has been.

We landed in Salt Lake City, Utah for a number of years, working tirelessly at our day jobs and spending the weekends in Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks following our passion. Tired of making the five hour drive to the parks each week, we decided build a camper van and live in it full time! It took us an entire year of blood, sweat, and tears to finish the camper van, but we did it! We sold everything we owned and moved into the van. It was incredibly scary, but one step closer to our making our dream a reality. Taking the next plunge, we opened a photography tour business, Adam gave up his career in Aerospace and we hit the road. Being able to share our experiences with other photographers has been nothing short of a dream, but we keep reaching farther. When the parks were too crowded with tourists in the summer, we turned to spending time in Alaska, where we now offer brown bear photography tours in the summer. After spending a number of years taking annual camping trips to see the bears, we decided it was time to give back. We got together with a few close friends and started For The Love Of Bears a bear conservation non-profit dedicated wild bears and the critical ecosystems they call home.

In 2022, we were completely humbled and excited to be awarded Highly Commended honors for two images in the Natural History Museum Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2022, the 58th annual competition. Having our images hang in the Natural History Museum in London and all over the world, has made the hard work seem worth while and we were so thankful.

Currently, we split our time between Alaska and the Yellowstone areas, which enables us to provide unique opportunities for others to experience and photograph wildlife. Our goal is for each guest to have an adventure that will never be forgotten. We work hard to achieve each guest’s photography goals while sharing our knowledge of wildlife. We love sharing all of this with you and hope you can join us sometime!

We are wildlife stewards who practice the highest ethical standards and photography etiquette. All images are taken in the wild of non-captive animals. Wildlife is never baited, lured, or called.
